After the White Mountains, Warren Doyle says take a rest day. Gladly. It was going to rain today anyway. Lots of hikers at the hostel today. I briefly befriended two older hikers in their 70s named Hollywood Tom with tattoos up and down his arms and Moonwalk, a Vietnam veteran. I spent the day resupplying, blogging at the library, and eating giant pancakes at Welsh’s in Gorham. It was so satisfying to take a break after completing one of the most grueling parts of the AT. I think I would have been just as happy just hiking over the Whites as I would have been walking the entire trail. More hard climbing to do though. Tomorrow I would venture into unfamiliar territory in Maine which I’ve heard is just as hard as the Whites.
